James E. Dyer, Regional Administrator Region ill FROM:

William D. Travers Executive Director for Operations On98d 9"8d W WWam D.Trumiss

SUBJECT:

COMMENDATION FOR SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE TO REVIEW GENERIC REQUIREMENTS I would like to thank you for your active participation in and strong support of the activities of the Committee to Review Generic Requirements (CRGR) since your appointment in April 1997 as the regional member of the Committee. Your expertise in many areas considered by the CRGR In its review of proposed new requirements and significant policy issues, especially those related to NRC's move to risk-informed and performance-based regulations, were extremely valuable. In particular, your broad knowledge and sound technical insights from the regional perspective have significantly strengthened the important function served by the Committee. I am all the more appreciative of your efforts on the CRGR in view of the significant additional burden imposed by your participation in the Committee's regular meetings as well as various special meetings held to support staff commitments.

Thanks again for a job well done.
