YOUR JANUARY 5,1998 RESPONSE TO NRC LETTER OF OCTOBER 1,1997 We have reviewed your letter of January 5,1998, and its attached ASME Code interpretation in response to our letter of October 1,1997, and the Notice of Nonconformance that was trans.
mitted to you as an enclosure to our letter dated April 29,1997. The results of our review have raised concems about the appropriateness of the inquiry, its use by DuBose National Energy Services, Inc., and the mechanism by which such an inquiry can be implemented.
We have contacted the Secretary of the ASME Section 111 Subgroup on Osneral Requirements and have requested that a discussion of the Inquiry attached to your January 5,1998, letter be added to an upcoming meeting agenda.
Further, we request that you address the comments contained in our October 1,1997, letter. We i
do not consider the reference to the Code interpretation in your January 5,1998, letter to adequately address those comments. We will be providing additional correspondence to you after the next ASME Section ill Subgroup on General Requirements meeting which is scheduled to be held during the week of February 22,1998, in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's
