OF MEETING WITH SPENT FUEL PROJECT OFFICE RELATED TO REVIEW OF NUREG REPORT ON STAFF RESPONSES TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS CONCERNING DECOMMISSIONING OF NUCLEAR REACTORS On January 22,1998, DRPM staff met with Mr. Earl Easton, Section Leader, and Ms. Stacy Rosenberg, and John Cook of your office to discuss the subject matter.

As agreed to in the meeting, your assistance is needed in reviewing Sections V and Vil of the attached draft NUREG report on, " Frequently Asked Question on Decommissioning of Power Reactors," and providing me with your comments. The following is a summary of this request.

Draft NUREG report on " Frequently Asked Questions on Decommissioning of Power Reactors."

2.

Decommissioning Task Leader: John L. Minns,415-3166.

3.

Requested Action: Review and comment on areas within your purview (Spent Fuel -

pages 27 35 and Transportation - pages 37-46). We believe it is appropriate for your organization to review.

4.

Background:

This draft NUREG report is being developed to provide the public with clear and accurate information about decommissioning of power reactors, to make information dissemination and public interaction more effective and efficient. We intend to publish this NUREG by March 1998.
