LASALLE COUNT'? NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION N.P.D.E.S. PERMIT NO:

IL0048151 NONCCMPLIANCE REPCRT DISCHARGE NUMBER AND DESCRIPTICN:

001, Cooling Pond Blowdown PARAMETER AND PERMIT LIMIT: Total Iron, 2.0 ppm 30-day average NCNCCMPLIANCE, DATE, AND DURATICN:

3.7 ppm Total Iron, 31 May 86, unknown CAUSE OF NCNCCMPLIANCE: The 2.0 ppm 30-day average limit for cooling pond blowdown total iron was exceeded because of one discharge which contained 5.8 ppm total iron.

(This occurrence was reported on a 6 May 86 notice of noncompliance submitted 28 May 86).

The only other sample required by the permit during the month of May was below the 4.0 ppm dally maximum limit.

CORRECTIVE ACTICN: On 8 May 86 Environmental Affairs Department requested that the total iron monitoring requirement and limitation on cooling pend blowdown be deleted and alternatively impose iron limitations on any of the individual wastestreams discharging to the cooling pond or cooling pond bicwdown line. The station feels this request is necessary due to-widely fluctuating iron levels present in the Illinois River and cooling pond which occur from natural causes.

It is the station's belief that this nonccmpliance was caused by factors beyond its control.
