SUBJECT:

APPROVAL OF YAEC-1339," YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY APPLICATION OF FIBWR2 CORE HYDRAULICS CODE TO BWR RELOAD ANALYSIS," VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION (TAC NO. M98457)

Dear Mr. Maret:

By letter dated April 14,1997, you requested that we review YAEC-1339 to allow the use of FIBWR2 to validate reload analyses which include new fuel types with part length fuel rods and varied water tube designs. You provided additional information by letter dated September 23, 1997.

We have completed our review and have concluded that use of Report YAEC-1339 at Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station is acceptable. Please note that the technical specification (TS) change incorporating this approved methodology for Vermont Yankee in TS Section 6, as proposed by your August 20.1997, letter must be issued prior to use of this methodology. The TS amendment will be issued by separate letter.
