Dear Chairman Palladino:

I continue to be concerned with the pace of investicative activity conducted by the Nuclear Deculatory Commission relative to the Wolf Creek Generatino Station.

Earlier this sorino, I was informed that the Office of Investications planned to initiate a new investication in June into the Quality First program at the Wolf Creek olant.

In a recent inquiry, my staf f was told that although the investication was still scheduled to becin in June, it might be delaye.1 until July, cendino coroletion of an investigation at another site in Recion IV.

Any futher delay in the commencement of the new inves tication is wholly unacceptable. Nearly six months have already elaosed since th e Commission voted to authorize the new investication.

'4cre impo r ta n tiv,

a full year has elapsed since the Wolf Creek Generatina Station was issued its full-power operating permit.

Since the new investication has imolications for the safe coeration of Wolf Creek, I recuest that the Commission assian it hiah oriority and assure that adecuate personnel are available to the Office of Investigations so that the proposed investication can becin immediately. Please notif y me in writtne within two weeks (hv June M) of the date hv which the investication will commence and the date of e xpected completion.

Finally, I would like to be inforced as to the current backloa of open OI cases, both investications and incuiries. Please indicate the number of open cases, how many have been ooen for more than 3 years, 2 years and 1 year, and how many have had no work cerformed on them a t all.

I am very concerned that a sicnificant backloc of cases, which 8607090171 860427 PDR COMMS NRCC, CORRESPONDENCE PDR THIS STATIONERY PRINTED ON PAPER MADE WITH RECYCLED FIBERS
