Dear Mr. Reyes:

Enclosed is a copy of the final exercise report for the September 9, 1998, full (for Alabama) and partial-participation (for Georgia) plume exposure pathway exercise of the offsite radiological emergency response plans site-specific to the Farley Nuclear Power Plant.

This report

t addresses the evaluation of the plans and preparedness for the

{

States of Alabama and Georgia and the counties within the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone.

The States of Alabama and Georgia, and the risk counties of Houston and Early County participated in the exercise.

The final exercise report was prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region IV staff.

Copies of this report will be forwarded to the States of Alabama and Georgia, FEMA Headquarters, and NRC Headquarters by my staff.

There were no Deficiencies identified during the exercise.

There was, however, one Area Requiring Corrective Action (ARCA) identified during this exercise.

Region IV staff will coordinate with the State of Alabama to correct the ARCA on or f

before the next biennial exercise.

Two previous ARCAs were l

corrected during this exercise.

Based on the results of the September 9, 1998, exercise, the offsite radiological emergency response plans and preparedness for the States of Alabama and Georgia and the affected local jurisdictions, site-specific to the Farley Nuclear Power Plant, can be implemented and are adequate to provide l

reasonable assurance that appropriate measures can be taken l

offsite to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency at the site.
