Subject:

Response to Violation as Contained in NRC Inspection Report 86-01

Dear Mr. Kister:

This letter is in response to the subject violation as contained in NRC Inspection 86-01, conducted by Dr. McBride of your office on January 1, 1986 to February 17, 1986 at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.

The subject letter stated that BECo would:

- conduct an evaluation of Control Room Equipment problems witn a view towards problem identification and correction

- review a violation in NRC Inspection Report 81-02 to determine whether a possible causal link existed

- submit conclusions and subsequent action plans to the resident inspector by May 11, 1986.

However, due to a union work stoppage we are currently experiencing, our activities related to the subject evaluation have been delayed. We now anticipate being able to provide the resident inspector with our conclusions by June 30, 1986.

If you should have any further questions regarding these matters, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Very truly yours, 8606230195 860613 I
