NRC INSPECTION REPORTS 50-266/97019(DRS); 50-301/97019(DRS)
Dear Mr. Patuiski:
On September 12,1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Point Beach Nuclear Plant,
- Units 1 and 2 The purpose of this inspection was to review the licensed operator
reg'tatification program, The enclosed report presents the results os that inspection.
Your licensed operator requalification program was being implemented in accordance with your
program guidance and regulatory requirements. All portions of the annual requalification
examination were effective tools for determining operator competency. However, certain of
your activities relating to requalification examination security appeared to be in violation of

10 CFR 55.49. As described in the enclosed inspection report, Gm violation is not being cited
becaun it was identified and corrected by your staff. No respome to this lettaris required.
The inspectors observed that your licensed control room operators were attentive to their
panels and demonstrated appropriate understanding of plant and equipment status,
in accordance with 10 CFR Part 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
9nd its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
