Electric Power Supply DESCRIPTION:
The LCG-25A thermoelectric generator weighs about 1.5 tons (1362 kg).
The external cast iron shield is.a 19" by 25" (4 9 cm.
by 64 cm) cylinder with a convex bottom and flat top containing a bolted on closure disk bearing heat rejection fins.
Lifting eyes and feet are integrally cast on the exterior of the shield to facilitate mounting the generator with its axis oriented either vertically or horizontally, while maintaining the heat rejection fins in a vertical plane.
At the core of the generator is the Hastelloy-C fuel cap'sule containing the radioactive strontium titanate heat source (700 watts).
Surrounding the fuel capsule is a wolfram shield that is supported within the cast iron outer shield by Min-K, a
resilient insulating material.
Between the top cover plate of the wolfram shield and the generator's aluminum cover plate is the thermoelectric module.
The temperature differential across the module induces the electrical power (25 watts) which is brought out through seals in the aluminum cover plate to terminals mounted at the fin topo.
The only other penetrations in the aluminum cover plate are a tube for out gassing the insulation in the generator and back filling it with an inert atmosphere, and the leads from the instrumentation thermocouple penned into a small hole in the wolfram shield.
During transport the LCG-25A is held within an aluminum and steel structure called a " doghouse".
LABELING:
The LCG-25A generator has two metal plates both of which are bolted onto the surface of the generator.
One plate has the inscription " Radioactive Material - B.E.
Permit No.
2184" and the other plate is inscribed with " Martin Company, Baltimore, Maryland, Division of Martin Marietta Corp., LCG-25A, weight 3000 lbs., Part No.
N0013100-XXX".

OUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL -
l Measurement of_the inner wolfram-shield temperature prior to each shipment were made.
If the measured temperature exceeded the maximum allowable,1 further ehipments were suspended until normal operation has been restored.
LIMITATIONS AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:
The device shall only be used by persons specifically licensed be the NRC or an Agreement State.
Handling, storage, use, transfer, and disposal: To be determined by the licensing authority.
The device shall be leak tested at intervals not to exceed 6 months using techniques capable of detecting 0.005 microcurie (185 Eq) of removable contamination.
REVIEWER NOTE: The-generator shall not be. handled in-such a-way that its heat dissipating _ characteristics-are inhibited'at any time-by covering or storing =in;a-non-ventilated area.
SAFETY ANALYSIS
SUMMARY
As of the effective date of this document,_ the Model LCG-25A Electric' Power Supply is no longer manufactured and distributed by Martin Marietta.
Martin.Marietta no longer exists having become Lockead Martin.
This' device was originally approved for licensing purposes-by the Atomic Energy Commission -(AEC).
There is insufficient information on file for this device to perform a safety evaluation and to determine when it was approved for licensing purposes by the'AEC.
Therefore, this_ certificate is
