Box 97, A200 Perry, OH 44081 SUBJECT: NRC ROUTINE INSPECTION REPORT 50-440/98004(DRS) Dear Mr. Myers: l On January 9,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Perry Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 reactor facility. The enclosed repart presents the results of that inspection. , The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to - l r.:lemistry, radiological environmental monitoring and post accident sampling, and to compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations end with the conditions of your license. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation of activities in progress. Overall, your chemistry program was well implemented. Your chemistry controls were effective in maintaining excellent water quality, and your commitment to advanced technologies for reactor protection from intergranular stress corrosion cracking was considered a strersgth. The radiological environmental monitoring program continued to be effectively implemented with nc adverse impact on the environment from plant operations noted. Additionally, the laboratory quality control program was effective in ensuring that both radiochemical and chemical samples analyzed were accurate, in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a py of this letter and its enclosure wi!! be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
