Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 Reactor Pressure Vessel Structural Integrity Assessment GNRO-98/00007 Gentlemen:
By letter dated August 22,1996, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) provided closeout to the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) response to Generic Letter 92-01, Revision 1, Supplement 1. In the letter, the NRC requested to be
. informed in writing if a plant-specific assessment of the GGNS Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) would be performed based on the results of a BWR Vessel and I g Internals Project (BWRVIP) generic assessment of RPV structural integrity expected to be completed in 1997.
The BWRVIP assessment report was received by GGNS in December,1997 (reference 1)' The results of evaluation of all relevant data indicate that GGNS does not have significant weld chemistry variability and therefore pressure-temperature (P-T) limits are not affected. Based on the referenced report, a plant-specific assessment cf RPV integrity is not necessary and will not be performed.
