Michael G. Raddatz, Senior Project Manager Licensing i

Spent Fuel Licensing Section Spent Fuel Project Office

Dear Mr. Raddatz:

Maine Yankee currently anticipates submitting, in January 1999, a licensing application for spent fuel storage to be considered for expedited review by the NRC. As requested by several NRC Branch Managers, to keep the NRC informed ofimpending requirements for resources, this letter l-provides notification of that intended action for budgetary consideration.

Maine Yankee is continuing to explore all options for tb.: disposition of spent fuel to support the decommissioning of the plant. The submittal could be for a dual purpose dry cask storage system or for continued storage in the spent fuel pool under a site specific license.

Please contact us ifyou have any questions.

j Sincerely, l
