STAFF RESPONSE TO ACRS COMMENTS ON THE DIFFERING PROFESSIONAL OPINION PERTAINING TO STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INTEGRITY
Dear Dr. Seale:
I am responding to your letter of October 10,1997, that included the comments of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) regarding the staff's consideration of the differing professional opinion (DPO) pertaining to steam generator tube integrity. The staff appreciated the opportunity to brief the ACRS on this matter at the meeti1g on October 2-3,1997, and the timely response from the committee.
In your let'.er, you concluded that the staff's DPO consideration document provided a good statement of the issues and represented a serious attempt to resolve the DPO issues. You recommended that the DPO consideration docunient be issued for public comment.
Accordingly, the NRC staff intends to issue the DPO consideration document for public comment as part of the package containing proposed generic letter 97-xx " Steam Generator Tube Integrity." I appreciate your cooperation with the staff in reviewing the DPO consideration document and in providing the committee's comrrents to support resolution of the issues.
