SUBJECT: ROUTINE SECURITY AND MATERIAL CONTROL AND ACCOUNTABILITY

INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-002/98201 (DRPMI

Dear Dr. Fleming:

This refers to the inspection conducted on January 6 7,1998, at the University of Michigan

Ford Nuclear Reactor. The purpose of the inspection was to deterraine whether activities

authorized by the license were conducted safety and in accordar.co with NRC requirements.

At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with those members of

your staff identuied in the enclosed report.

Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures am representative records,

interviews with personnel, and observations of activities in progress.

As a result of the inspection, one Non Cited Violation was identified. Overall, the program

was implemented acceptably in accordance with the requirements.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's * Rules of Practice," a copy of thls letter and

its enclosure (s) will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
