Deer Mr. Marion:

On December 22,1997, the NRC received a request fmm the Nelear Energy Institute (NEI) to extend the public comment period on a proposed rule which would endorse later editions and addenda of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASM3 Code). NEl requested an extension until April 3,1998 because the coinp,h.sive nature of the proposed rule will require a significant effort to collect and review comments from members of the industry. The request for a 30-day extension of the public comment period has been granted.
