Dear Mort:
It was good to see you again, earlier this week. hionday's infonnational meeting lasted snuch longer tlian I had expected; I am sorry I couldn't move it along faster.
In the last few minutes my comments were meant to emphasize strongly the following:
HacMam 'sflrst concern isfor the sqfety and health ofthe public. The Town also has another concern the economic well-being ofthe comunmity. Timing is of considerable concern. Schededing ofthe decommissioning process must be
<pdekened to the point that it isprudent, while staying safe. Dry cask storage of spentfuel rods would expedite site reuse, a very importantfactor in fladdam 's economicjklure. The latter seems more viable aller the recent actions of Congress.
According to b lbrmation I have reviewed. plansfor aJInal slie surve)'seem to be l
at least seven years myay. That is over three times as long as it takesJbr most major hemy industrial sites to be readiedfor reuse. I expect that Connecticut Yankee has someflalH!ity in hs planning and is willing to work diligently to get i
parts and eventually all ofthe alte into conditionfor reuse by other industry, thereby bringing i :enomic viao:llty back to the lloddam Neck site.
I look forward to hearing from you so that we can address these concerns in the near f
future.
/
Sincerely.
