REllEF FROM CERTAIN ASME CODE REQUIREMENTS FOR INSERVICE INSPECTION FOR FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 1 (TAC NO. M98242)
Dear Mr. Wood:
The Technical Specifications for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station state that the inservice inspection of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code Class 1, 2, and 3 components shall be performed in accordance with Section XI of the ASME Boller and Pressure Vessel Code and applicable addenda as required by 10 CFR 50.55a(g), except where specific written relief has been granted by the Commission.
By letter dated March 7,1997, as supplemented November 18,1997, you i
submitted to the NRC requests for relief from the examination requirements of the applicable ASME Code,Section XI, for the second inservice inspection interval examinations. The NRC staff has reviewed and evaluated your Relief Request Nos. RR-A13. RR-A14, RR-AIS, and RR-B8 for the second 10-year inservice inspection interval at Davis-Besse. As detailed in the enclosed Safety Evaluation, the staff has approved your requests for relief.
The proposed alternatives in Relief Requests RR-A13, RR-A14, and RR-B8 have been granted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(1).
The proposed alternative in Relief Request RR-AIS has been granted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(ii).
