Docket Nos. 70-7001 and 70-7002 Withdrawal of Request to Review Compliance Plan Changes
Dear Mr. DeVault:
The United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) letter to the Department of Energy'(DOE),
DOE 97-0002 dated November 6,1997, requested that the DOE review and approve revisions to the Plan for Achieving Compliance with NRC Regulations at the Paducah and Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (Compliance Plans). These changes involve Issue 27 for PGDP and issue 30 for PORTS. USEC determined in subsequent discussions with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that there was not enough time to support NRC review and approval'of the revisions by the date they were required to be completed. At both PGDP and PORTS, the work activities were re-structured and the required actions were completed by December 31,1997. Therefore, although USEC appreciates the DOE providing an expedited review of these Compliance Plan revisions, the changes will not be necessary and USEC is withdrawing its request for D'E review and approval of the revisions. USEC sincerely appreciates the support DOE has provided in this area.
