G. E. Grant letter to W. T. Subalusky, dated

November 15,1996, Transmitting NRC Inspection

Report 50-373/374-96011

The subject inspection Report, in Section M3.3.b. Observations and

Findinas, states that "The licensee ... clarified the procedure to specify a

~

maximum acceptable sedimentation height," and later, that "The licensee

combined surveillances LTS-600-19 and LTS-600-23 with LTS-1000-4, and

applied the surveillance requirement to the entire lake screen house, thereby

including de service water tunnel and resolving the issue."

During a review by Site Quality Verification, it was identified that the subject

,-

procedures were not changed. Due to the amount of time that has elapsed

since the Inspection, we were unable to determine the cause of the apparent

mis communication t'etween the inspector and our staff, however, the issue

. documented in the Inspection Roport will be resolved as indicated below:

A Technical Specification change has been submitted to revise

the inspection requirements for the Lake Screen House inlet

Bays, Service Water Tunnel and CSCS Bypass Line. The

procedures will be revised to implement the Technical

Specification change following approval, which is currently

.

anticipated in December 1997 (NTS# 373 200-96-00150.05A)
