On October 7,1997, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued Gencric Letter 97-04 regarding a safety-signif: cant issue which may have generic implications for inadequate performance of the Emergency Core Cooling System and Containment Heat Removal Systems. The Generic Letter required, within 30 days, a written response indicating (a) whether or not the requested information will be submitted, and (b) whether nr not the requested information will be submitted within the requested time period. Southern Nuclear is hereby providing the required 30-day response for the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant. Southern Nuclear intends to provide the infonnation requested in the Generic Letter by January 5,1998.
Mr. D. N. Morey states that he is a Vice-President of Sauthern Nuclear Operating Company and is authorized to execute this oath on behalf of Southern Nuclear Operating Company and that, to the best of his hnowledge and belief, the facts set forth in this letter are true.
