Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) letters dated October 10,1997 and November 10, 1997 (References 1 and 2, respectively), requested additional inforraation to support a final disposition of PGDF Compliance Plan Issue 3, Action 9. Pursuant to a conversation between Ms.

Merri Hom ofyour staff and Mark Smith, USEC, on January 6,1998, this letter documents USEC's understanding that the due date for this response has been extended from January 8,1998, to February 9,1998. As suggested by the NRC (Reference 2), USEC will pursue ajoiat Portsmouth and Paducah resolution of this Compliance Plan Issue. This extension will allow USEC sufficier2t time to coordinate ajoint response betw:en the Gaseous Diffusion Pants.
