4 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has requested that Sargent & Lundy (S&L) prepare and submit on the docket a report on the status and expeded completion of the Millstone Unit 3 ICAVP every two weeks. This is the first of those reports.
At the status meeting held at Millstone on Odober 21,1997, S&L presented the following milestone schedule for the remaining Work:
Tier i Wave 1 System Review Complete 10/31/97 I
Tier 1 Wave 2 System Review Complete 11/30/97 Tier 2 Review Complete '
10/31/97 Tier 3 Review Complete.

- These forecast dates were based on the assumptions that the response to Request for
~ Information (RFl) 336 would be received by 10/21/97 and that the responses to all otner Tier i Weve 1 and Tier 2 and 3 RFis would be received by 10/24/97. -

- On the following day, October 22, an ICAVP working meeting was held with Northeast Utilities
' (NU), NRC Staff, and S&L for NU to describe 'ho current status of various, programs and on00ing corrective actions which may impact the Unit 3 ICAVP review process. The information presented at that meeting Indicated that significant corrective actions were still ongoing on the Tier 1 Wave 1 systems (R88 ano SWP) and or motor operated valves (MOVs) on all systems.
NU provided their schedule information on when the RSS modifications and the SWP calculations would be completed and available for 84L review as part of the ICAVP. - These dates ranged from the early November to late November, in addition S&L identified and 8
- requested a number cf NU documents that were referenced during the NU presentations. These gg documents are expeded in Chicago on 10/25/97 or 10/27/97.

G&L will attempt to complete the Tier 1 reviews prior to 12/15/97 so that the NRC in scope
,r reviews can begir, as currently scheduled. A more definitive schedule will be provided after we have had a better chance to review some of the information being provided by 10/27/97. The Tier 2 and Tier 3 reviews appear to be unaffected by this new information, and the dates provided on 10/21/d7 and shown above are still valid, A copy of the slidec fcmi the status presentation on 10/21/97 are enclosed. A set of charts that track the review of NU resolutions to the Discrepancy Reports will be provided on the next status report.
