g L Wo wore pleased to loam at the October 1997, Interagency Committee on Dam Safety (ICODS) c meeting that the National Dam Safety Program implementation Plan (NDSPl).will authorize $2.9' million to support the dam safety initiative.1We believe this level of funding will give the Federal j
1 Emergency Management Agency the opportunity to implement a ' strong and proactive:safstyf

program for the nation's dams l Since funding for the dem safety initiative is now secure with the
- NDSPI authorization,the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission does not plan to continue funding ;
j' its commitment of $10,000 for annual involvement in ICODS.

- Although there is no longer a need for NRC to directly fund the ICODS initiative, we will continue i E
to participate as an active _ member of the organization. We believe that the current appropriation
? will be of great benefit to ICODS and its member agencies, and look forward to our continued -
