In response to vnur euestion on this subject we plan tn continue tn address the ospinsive nas issue in the PETS revirv hut tn enfer ection on this issue, if nece s sa ry. in avoid delavinn PfTS implementation. This anproach avoids the delave that would acrue frori insistance on resolvinn the issue at this tirwe.

The rrt are several advantancs to-addressing the issue of explosive nases at this tire, even theuqh the prospects for resolutinn are limited. First, in snre casas, resolution may be achieved (lladdan lieck seens prehable).

Second.

-licensees' attention will be called to the nrchien and to the llEC's intent to find solutions. Third, we will learn about the situation in tha various plants, includino their problens in contro111nq qases, their prnblens with the requirrtents of the rude) FETS. their nonttorinq canabilities, and their waste qes systens. As a conscouence. subscouent resolution of the explosiva qas 1suse shoulti he 'mich easier than it would have been if we had eot aMresteri the issue in tbc RETS review.

This arproach was intended when both the PETS contract (f!H AMS9) and the explosive qas contract (FIH AM60) were written so nn change is needed.

Actually the fundinn of the explosiva qas contract is minirial, in part, because we plannod to utilize feedbact frnn +he RETS work.
