Dear Mr. Grigg:

The staff has reviewed and evaldated the information provided in your January 2,1998, letter related to Request for Relief VRR-4B from the Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unita 1 and 2.

Inservice Testing Program.

The staff has determined that for' Relief Request VRRMB, the requirements of the Code are impractical and the relief is granted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.53a(f)(6)(i) until the end of the 1998 Unit i refueling outage (no 16ter than June 30,'1998). The relief granted is authorized by law and will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security and is otherwise in _ 4 the public interest given due consideration to the burden upon Wisconsin Electric that could ~

result if the requirements were imposed on the facility. You should maintain documentation -
