- 3. Letter from Thomas P. Gwynn (USNRC) dated October 3,1997, " Notice of Licensee Meeting" (Predecisional Enforcement Conference to discuss apparent violations in NRC Inspection Report 50-298/97-12)
By letter dated December 31,1997 (Reference 1), the NRC requested a confirmation of commitment from Nebraska Public Power District (District) regarding a schedule change in the installation of essential power supplies to the elevated release point sump pumps (Z Sump pumps) This letter confirms the commitment as discussed during the telephone conversation between Mr. E. E. Collins (USNRC) and Mr. Mike Peckham (NPPD), that the modification will be installed during the midcycle outage scheduled to begin on February 28,1998, or during an unplanned outage should one occut before this time. Also, in the District's Reply to a Notice of Violation dated December 31,1997 (Reference 2), the District committed to the installation of essential power to the Z sump pumps no later than March 31,1998.

I to complete the installation by December 31,1997..However, during the modification process it was determined that personnel safety would be put at risk, due to the inability to de-energize the
- required circuits during power operation. Thus, in the interest of personnel safety, the installation will be completed during the midcycle outage. Also, as discussed in Reference 2, interim corrective raeasures have been taken to eliminate the potential for water accumulation in the fffffIffff[g
