Implementation of Severe Accident Management Program Gentlemen:
This letter transmits notification of implementation of severe accident management guidelines at Wolf Creek Generating Station.
In November 1994, the US nuclear industry committed to implement severe uccident management at their plants by December 31, 1998, using the guidance contained in the current revision of NEI 91-04, Section 5.
The Reference provided notification that Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) would complete implementation of severe accident management by September 30, 1997.
This conmitment was fulfilled as of September 30, 1997, including the following elenents:
All phases of Severe Accident Management (SAM) have been completed, including procedure / guideline development and initial training for emergency response personnel; Mechanisms for including updated information affecting SAM implementation, and for periodic self-assessments, are in place; and
.. An initial self-assessment was performed during August 1997 and indicated changes have been accomplished.
