Farrar letter to J.G.

dated May 16, 1985.

Dear Mr. Keppler:

The above reference supplied Commonwealth Edison's response to a violation (456/84-44-04; 457/84-40-04, part b) identified during the NRC CAT inspection of the Braidwood Station relative to the use of fasteners which did not comply with ASTM 307.

In particular, the fasteners used on certain cable tray hangers and battery racks lacked a manufacturers identification mark as required by ASTM A307.

The purpose of this letter is to provide additional information relative to this issue.

The above reference also identified the corrective actions being taken to resolve this issue and that Commonwealth Edison Nonconformance Report No. (NCR) 692 would track this concern to resolution.

The corrective actions, as identified in NCR 692, are complete and the NCR closed.

Subsequent to the identification of this issue at Braidwood, the question of " bolts" supplied with vendor equipment and their conformance with ASTM 307 requirements was raised at Commonwealth Edison's Byron Station.

Testing of bolt material on vendor supplied equipment is currently underway at Byron.

The vendor supplied equipment at Braidwood is similar to the Byron equipment.

It is expected the Byron test results will be applicable J AN 2 71986, 0601310142 060121 gg PDR ADOCK 05000456 G

,, to Braidwood.

This issue is being tracked at Braidwood by Commonwealth Edison NCR 783.

Closure of this NCR is expected by March 31, 1986.

If you have any further questions on this matter, please direct them to this office.

Very truly yours, L.O. DelGeorg Assistant Vice President LOD / pay cc:
