TMI-I STATUS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD May 9 - 16, 1986 Enclosed is the TMI-l weekly status report from the NRC Resident Of fice at TMI-1 for the subject period.
The NRC staff continued to monitor routine plant opera-tions at full power.
TMI-1 status reports are intended to provide NRC management and the public with highlights from an NRC regulatory perspective of TMI-1 activities for the pre-vious week. Subsequent inspection reports will address many of these topics in more detail.

ENCLOSURE TMI-I STATUS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD May 9 - 16, 1986 1.
Plant Status As of 8:00 a.m. on May 16, 1986, TMI-1 was operating at 100 percent power and at normal reactor coolant temperature (579 F) and pressure (2155 psig).

Facility Operations Summary At the start of the period, the plant was operating at 100 percent power and continued to operate at 100 percent during the reporting period. No significant safety problems were identified during the report period.

Items of Special Interest j
Radiological Environmental Monitoring Report The NRC has received the licensee's Radiological Environmental Monitoring Report for Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, which was transmitted by letter from R. Heward (GPUN) to NRC Region I, dated April 30, 1986.
NRC Region I review of this report will be documented in a future inspection report.
Security Plan Meeting i
On May 13, members of the NRC Headquarters licensing staff met in Bethesda with licensee representatives regarding NRC comments on a revision to the TMI Security Plan. Two representatives of the NRC Region I Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards Branch attended.

NRC Staff Status During the Period During this report period, the NRC staff consisted of the senior resident inspector and three resident inspectors.
During the period, the NRC issued two inspection reports:
No. 50-289/86-02, Routine Safety Inspection, and No. 50-289/86-03, Safety System Functional Inspection (SSFI). The SSFI was conducted jointly by members of the Per-formance Appraisal Section of the NRC Headquarters Office of Inspection and Enforcement, Region I inspectors, and NRC contractors. The inspection team noted strong performance at TMI-1 in the areas of training, quality assurance, maintenance, and operations.
However, performance related to design changes and modifications did not achieve the high standards main-tained in the other areas inspected.
Inspection follow-up, including ini-tiation of any appropriate enforcement action and review of licensee cor-rective actions, will be the responsibility of NRC Region I.
