Dear Chairman and Commissioners:
As the Commission is well aware, six and one-half years thus far have been spent by LES in seeking a license for the Claibome Enrichment Center. By any fair reckoning, this is an unduly lengthy time to obtain a licensing decision for a facility, the likes of which are currently being safely operated in Germany, The Netherlands and Great Britain.
The LES partners are greatly troubled by the length of time thus far expended and have asked us to-inquire of the Commission its view as to when decisions can be expected. We recognize that this is not a normal inquiry, but then again, this has not been a normal case.
- This inquiry takes on added significance in that the LES partners' reputations have been besmirched with allegations of discrimination. Given the political sensitivity of these allegations, our clients are understandably anxious that the Commission render its decision promptly.
