Ippolito, Chief, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control Systems Branch, TR OUTSTA'iDING ISSUE ON WP-1,4 SER input from EICSB (1/28/75) asked for additional information from WPPSS concerning manual alignment of HPI and LPl pumps if needed.
Information requested was a statement of the individual actions required and the time available to perform these actions both individually and collectively. The same SER writeup stated that "we expect the design to be similar,to the one we have accepted for the Bellefonte plant." The Bellefonte plant also has manual alignment of HPI/LPI pumps.
Applicant responded to staff concerns in this area on 2/20/75 (PSAR Amendment 15), on 5/20/75 (letter to A. Giambusso), and in a muting with the staff in Bethesda on 5/29/75. At this point what we need ia an updated staff position either accepting the design as is or stst:ing what must be changed to meet our requirements. The urgency for resolution of this matter is that HPI/LPI alignment is now the only issue on which the ataff has not taken a position in response to material submitted by the
, applicant. The post ACRS supplement input is due to LPM on July 3, 1975.
Applicant is willing to respond to this issue in PSAR Amendment No. 18 on June 16, 1975, if necessary. I would like to schedule a meeting this week to define the staff position on this issue with regard to WNP-1,4.
