DECEMBER 15, 1976 WPPSS wants to discuss details of staff position regarding component cooling water (CCW) supply to reactor coolant (RC) pump, pump motor and seal coolers. They are primarily interested in that option in the position that pemits upgrading the CCW to Seismic Category I, Quality Group C, and ASME Section III Class 3, and other requirements.
l Specific questions advanced by WPPSS prior to the meeting area i
1.
If " safety grade" automatic protection is supplied on loss of cooling water, or CCW is single active failure proof and designed I
to accept moderate energy line cracks, must they also design CCW to Seismic Category I, Quality Group C and ASME III, Class 37 l
2.
To what extent must CCW system meet upgraded criteria, e.g.,
back to and including the makeup source for the systaa?
3.
What are staff's detailed requirements on safety grade automatic j
protection of plant in the event of CCW failure to one or more pumps.
