SAFL'TT EVALUATION REPORT Plant Names Washington Public Power Supply System Nuclear Projects No.1 and 4 (WNP-184) l Licensing Stage:

CP l

Docket Ninnber: 50-460; 50-513 Responsible Branch: LWR 2-3 Project Manager: Thomes Cox Requested Completion Date: Jannery 23, 1975 The enclosed Safety Evaluation Report covers those portions of the P, pag for which the Auxiliary and Power Conversion Systems Branch has primary responsibility.

We prepared two formal requests for information and submitted them to the applicant, the first dated February 22, 1974 and the second dated October 11, 1974. The' plant site was changed between the first and second requests and as a result the design of all systems within our scope of review were changed. In our second Intter dated October 11, 1974 we stated that additional requests might be required if the responses to the second round of regnests were 4=enemplate. However, we feel this will be unnecessary as a result of our review of the applicants responses.

Based upon the results of our review of the PSAR we find the PSAR infore, ation l

to be acceptable with t.he exception of the following itemas t

1.

The capability of the auxiliary feedwater system to assure facility cold shutdown following a pipe break in the main' or auxiliary feedwater line inside contai= ant coincident with a single active I

failure in the a==414=ry feedwater train supplying the operable staan generator.

2.

The auxiliary feedwater system does not meet our branch position which requires diversity of power supplies to the control valves on lines to each staam generator.
