Supplementary information: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has developed a tentative list of courses for fiscal year 1998 (enclosed). The list includes the tuition costs for those courses taught by contractors. The State is responsible fo the

- travel and per diem expenses and tuition costs, as listed, if they wish to reserve a space in a specific course. Otherwise, State staff may attend on a space available basis. Upon Commission approval, criteria for NRC assistance in training expenses will be applied in response to requests meeting the criteria. Notice of the final criteria will be sent to the Agreement States shortly af ter final Commission approval.

For planning purposes, we are requesting that you identify the number of individuals you would plan to send to each of the courses listed.

The State of. Texas and NRC coordinators for the Safety Aspects of Well Logging course have requested that we determine, by mid August,1997, the State interest for this course. [.

This information will enable them to complete timely arrangements for the course, or to I

cancel the course for this year if there is not sufficient interest. (There is no tuition charge f

for this course.) Therefore, we request that you indicete whether you have applicants for this course and intend to fund travel for your State staff attendance, by f axing a short note 7 7 go the contact below by Auoust 15,1997.
