DOCKET HO.: 50-460 APPLICANT: VASEDIGION PUELIC POL *ER SUPPLY SYSTEM (WPPSS)
PACILITY: VASHU CIO'T UUCLEAR ONE (WNP-1)
SUmtARY OF NEITI:!G HELD ON MAY 8,1974 TO DISCUSS CWJ;GES U LIQUID RADIOACTIVE UASTE SYSTDI (LRWS) DESIC:1 On May 8,1974, representatives of WPPSS, United Engineers and Constructors (UE&C) and the Regulatory staff met in Bethesda, Paryland to discuss the subject IMS dent::n changes. An attendance list is attached.
The UETC representatives presented a su:nsry review of the prelininary design of their redesigned liquid radioactiva vaste treatuent systen. The revised syste:n will be incorporated in the W"P-1 PSAR in an anendment i
acheduled for July 1974. The new design consists of two identical trains, each composed of a reverse oscosis feed tank, back-flushable filter,. reverse osmosis unit, two nized-bed demineralizers in series, processed water hold-up tanks and associated pumps and instrmsentation.
The redundant trains emy ba operated either in series or in parallel.
Iformally only one train would be uned with the other held in standby condition. UE&C pointed out that while operating data for RO units on nuclear vaste stren=s is unavailable in the open literature, WASH-1258 does indicate that design decontamination factors of from 30 to 50 for RO units are attainable.
In addition, the liquid radwaste systent pro-poned by UE&C is capabic of processing wastes at the design flow rates even without the RO units operating.
