This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. K. R. Naidu of this office on May 13-14, 1985, of your facilities located at Wendell and Sanford, North Carolina and to the discussions of our findings with Mr. R. D. Giuli of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection. This also refers to th inspection of your switchgear installed at the Shearon Harris nuclear power piant conducted on July 8,1985 with you, members of your staff and plant electrical maintenance personnel, to observe the defeciencies identified during routine maintenance and to the subsequent discussions on the corrective actions proposed by you to correct these defeciencies.
The purpose of these inspections was to review the implementation of your quality assurance program and corrective action taken relative to the weld deficiencies and other problems identified in the switchgear supplied to Shearon Harris nuclear power' plant. Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are discussed in the enclosed report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of an examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
The results of the inspection indicate that you have either taken or initiated appropriate corrective action on each of the identified problems.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
