Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Unit Nos.1 & 2; Docket Nos. 50-317 A 50-318 Additional Information for Insoection Reoort Nos. 50-317(318V97-07 As part of the ic.Spection activity conducted under Inspection Report Nos. 50-317(318y97-07, a potential issue regarding ti.e qualifications of S. R. Sanders, General Supervisor-Radiation Safety was raised. This letter is provided to you, in accordance with our verbal agreement made with Mr. R. L. Nimitz (NRC) during his recent inspection [Inspecticn Report Nos. 50-317(318)/97-07] activity conducted at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Piant (December 8-12,1997), and provides a description of our planned refresher training for S. R. Sanders, General Supervisor Radiation Safety, in addition, we have taken interim action by designating the current Senior Plant Health Physicist, L J. Smialek, to be responsible for the management of the Radiation Protection Program at Calvert Cliffs. This responsibility includes approval authority of the pertinent procedures. Mr. Sanders will retain the supervisory responsibilities as General Supervisor-Radiation Safety.

Additional coaching of Mr. Sanders will be provided by Mr. Mike Horne of INPO for: two weeks in December,1997, and three weeks in January,1998. This coaching will be continued beyoad January, 1998, as deemed necessary. The coaching of Mr. Sanders will ensure that he is:

- (1) up-to-date with the state-of-the-art technology in Radiation Protection, (2) abreast of current industry Radiation Protection issues, (3). abreast ofindustry Radiation Protection performance, and (4) trained on the appropriate Calvert Cliffs Radiation Protection procedures.
