STATE ASSISTANCE IN REVIEW 0F PNSS GENERIC TOPICAL REPORT ENVIR0 STONE AND PORTLAND CEMENT ENCAPSOLATION OF RADI0 ACTIVE FILTER ELEMENTS The Engineering Branch of the Division of Waste Management, NMSS, is
-performing a technical review of information submitted by Pacific Nuclear Systems & Services (PNSS) in a generic topical report, "Envirostone and Portland Cement Encapsulation of Radioactive Filter Elements." The proposed methods using the solidification agents (i.e., Envirostone and Portland Cement) are' intended for the disposal of low-level waste at the Barnwell, South Carolina and Hanford, Washington sites. Because the individual state agencies have responsibility for regulating the commercial disposal sites within their states, we are forwarding to each state for review and comment a copy of our review comments.
Accordingly, we have enclosed herewith tuo copies of our review comments and request your assistance in transmitting them to the appropriate agencies in the states of South Carolina and Washington.
