,,/ - Chicago, Illinois 60690 November 4, 1985 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment - Supplemental Information NRC Docket-Nos.-50-373 and-50-374-References (a): September 27, 1985 letter from H. L. Massin to H. R. Denton~ response to G.L. 85-15.

(b): October 9,1985 letter from H. L. Massin to H. R. Denton.

Dear Mr. Denton:

The referenced letters apprised the NRC of certain test activities, associated with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49, which are still in

. progress. They also provided a re-evaluation of the Comsip analyzers. This-letter supplements that information with a response to an additional question raised during a telecon of October 30, 1985.

We stated previously that the Comsip analyzers were originally classified under Reg. Guide 1.97 as Category I monitoring a Type A variable.

We have reclassified the analyzers as Category III monitoring a Type D variable. Be advised that a submittal on Reg. Guide 1.97 is being planned for February 1986 in which we will document a final decision on this classi-fication. If retained as Category III, we will provide a detailed basis for this position. If assigned as either Category I or II, we will identify any outstanding measures necessary to comply fully with the requirements of the Reg. Guide. Following concurrence from the NRC on our position, an implemen-tation schedule will be submitted by August 1986 to establish a completion date.-

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact this office.

One signed original and ten (10) copies of this transmittal are enclosed for your use.

Very truly yours, 8511130113 851104-PDR ADOCK 05000373 .
