GDP 97 0214, Page 2 Justification for Deletion The above commitment was originally generated as part of the corrective ac' ions for DOE Event Report PTS 95 138 dated September 12,1995, concerning an autoclave containment valve that had leakage through the seat and stem, caused by wear of the valve plug sleeve. Subsequent to this commitment, a PORTS Compliance Plan issue was developed that requires upgrades to the autoclave containment valves. As part of the modifications being performed to complete this Compliance Plan action, bellows scaled globe-type valves are being installed which reduce the seat and stem leakage. The Plan of Action and Schedule for PORTS Compliance Plan issue 3 states that this modification will be completed by May 1,1998, for the first of thirteen autoclaves and that the remaining autoclaves will be completed by February 1,2001. Thejustification for continued operation (JCO) with the current design is provided in the JC0 associated with thi*
Compliance Plan issue.
Therefore, USEC is deleting the commitment that originated from DOE Event Report PTS-95 138 since it is similar to the commitment referred to in the PORTS Compliance Plan.
If you have any questions or require additionalinformation, please contact Ron Osston at (614) 897 2".s. There are no new commitments contained in this submittal.
Sincerely, 6.Q 6Ak Steven A. Toelle Nuclear Regulatory Assurance and Policy Manager cc:
