SUBJECT:
REQUEST TO RESCHEDULE THE LASALLE STATION MAINTENANCE RULE BASELINE INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Subalusky:
.We carefully cont'dered ycur December 12,1997, request to reschedule the Maintenance Rule Baseline inspection at LaSalle County Station. We recognize that System Readiness Reviews are an important aspect of your overall corrective acticn program and we utiderstand that a maintersance rule syctem status review is part of that effort. We have, however, concluded that the inspection should proceed as scheduled, beginning January 12,1998.
Our reason for denying your request is that rescheduling the inspection until Febrt.ary 23,1998, or thereafter, wculd severely impact the resource loading of an alre, ady rigorous maintenance rule inspection schedule. Inspections are et'rrently scheduled at the rate of one per month for the first six months of 1998, in order to achieve the Commission's goal of completing all of the baseline inspections before July 1998. We considered the possibility of exchanging inspection dates with another site and concluded that at this time, it was unfeasible, in addition to the complexities inherent in rearranging regional inspectors' schedules, we would be dealing with the complications resulting from attempting to rearrange scheduling of contractor and Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation inspectors.
We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause, but view the completion of this inspection at its scheduleo time as essentlat. Should you have any further questiens in this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us, in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Sincerely,

REQUEST TO RESCHEDULE THE LASALLE STATION MAINTENANCE RULE BASELINE INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Subalusky:
We carefully considered your December 12,1997, request to reschedule the Maintenance Rule Baseline Inspedion at LaSalle County Station. We recognize that System Readiness Reviews are an important aspect of your overall corrective action program and we understand that a mainter.snce rule system s'atus review is part of that effort. We have, however, concluded that tha inspection should proceed as scheduled, beginning January 12,1998.
Our reason for denying your request is that rescheduling the inspection until February 23,1998, or thereafter, would severely impact the resource loading of an already rigorous maintenance rule inspection schedule, inspections are currently scheduled at the rate of one per month for the first six months of 1998, in order to achieve the Commission's goal of completing all of the baseline inspections before July,1998. We censidered the possibility of exchanging inspection dates with another site and concluded that at this time, it was unfeasible in addition to the complexities inherent in rearranging regionalinspectors' schedules, we would be dealing with the complication = tesulting from attempting to rearrange scheduling of contractor and Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation inspectors.
We apologize for the inconvenotice that this may cause, but view the completion of this inspection at its scheduled time as essential.
