.$ 3 TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE REQUEST By letter dated August 18, 1986, the State of Arizona requeste technical assistance, (enclosure) from the NRC for the evaluation of material to be released for unrestricted use from a secondary uranium recovery operation licensed by the State.
L Our icterest is that the State handle this decommissioning evaluation in a manner that is equivalent to or compatible with current procedures and practices authorized by the NRC for any of its licensees.
We also have a concern about the control of the material by the licensee and licensee procedures for exercising such control now that the facility is under new ownership.
The State's primary interests for the moment appears to focus on the disposal of resins, organics and other unspecified low-level radioactive waste, and whether the criteria contained in Reg. Guide 1.86 is applicable for decommissioning such a facility.
If other guidance is availabic such gridance should be identified, e.g., Staff Technical Positions, Annex A, etc. A response from your office to this request by September 22, 1986 N
