By Reference 1, Boston Edison Company provided a summary description of the periodic verification program for safety-related motor operated valves at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in response to Generic Letter 96-05 (Reference 2). In that letter, we repeated our commitment to establish the verification program by September 30,1997. We wish to inform you that the periodic verification program was established by that date, in Reference 1, we also stated that we planned to. develop the implementing procedures and expected to begin implementation of the verification program by December 31,1997. By this letter, we wish to inform you that additional time is required to complete these activities, in recent weeks our staff has been required to support an unplanned plant outage as well as the NRC inspection for /..
Generic Letter 89-10 close-out activities. Accordingly, we now expect to develop the implementing / p procedures and begin implementation of the periodic verification program by February 28,1998.
