USE OF ASME CODE CASE N-341 FOR WNP-1, WNP-2 AND WNP-3, DOCKET NOS. 50-460, 50-397 AND 50-508 The Mechanical Engineering Branch has completed its review of the Washington Public Power Supply System request for authorization to use ASME Code Case N-341 at WNP-1, WNP-2, and WNP-3, Docket Nos. 50-460, 50-397, and 50-508, as identified in the applicant's letter G01-84-0217/G02-84-467/C03-84-518, dated August 16, 1984.
Code Case N-341, dated June 17,1982, " Certification of Level III NDE Examiner,Section III, Division 1", is an acceptable code case which is approved as written with no additional requirements other than those specified in the code case. This code case is identified in Revision 21 of Regulatory Guide 1.84 for general use and may only be used for Section III, Division 1 construction at WNP-1, WNP-2, and WNP-3.
The provisions of this code case have not yet been promulgated in R.G.1.147 for Section XI use.
These provisions, as noted in the applicant's request, have been incorporated in Subarticle IWA-2300(a)(1) of the 1983 Edition, Winter 1983 Addenda of Section XI. The intent of the applicant's request is to standardize the certification of Level III NDE examiners for all activities at each plant. Therefore, pending the incorporation of Section XI,1983 Edition, through the Winter 1983 Addenda of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code into 10 CFR 50, Section 50.55a,(b), " Codes and Standards", permission is granted to use Subarticle IWA-2300, " Qualifications of Nondestructive Examination Personnel", in the Winter 1983 Addenda to the 1983 Edition of Section XI of the Code for the above listed plants.
