Box 220 St. Francisville, Louisiana 70775 SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-458/97-12 Dear Mr. McGaha: An NRC inspection was cond cted December 3-12,1997, at your River Bend Station reactor facility. The enclosed repod presents the scope and results of t;iat inspection. The purpose of this inspection was primarily to evaluate effectiveness of the licensed operator requalification program. The inspoction evaluated your Operations training staff in the development, adtainistration, ano evaluation of the annual requalification operating examination. The inspection also used these examinations to assess licensed operator performance. Overall, we obcerved much improved operator performai.ce in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
