3.9.3.1 Loading Combinations, Design Transients and Stress Limits In Section 3.9.3.1 of the SER, the staff stated that the applicant had committed to reconcile the final suppression pool hydrodynamic loads accepted by the staff with the loads used for plant design and document the results of the new loads adequacy evaluation in the FSAR.

In a letter dated January 24, 1984, C. Sorensen to A. Schwencer (Reference 1), the applicant provided the results of the reconciliation of the hydrodynamic loads for all affected safety-related piping components, equipment and their supports. The applicant stated that the Supply System has completed a detailed design assessment for all the safety-related piping components and equipment inside containment and outside containment up to the first anchor. Changes in the design such as modifications of pipe supports have been implemented as a result of the consideration of the final SRV discharge and LOCA suppression pool hydrodynamic loads. Based on the results of its assessment and the .

completion of the necessary modifications, the applicant concluded that all the safety-related piping components, equipment and their supports, inside containment and outside containment to the first anchor, are capable of withstanding the effects of hydrodynamic loads resulting from SRV actuation and postulated LOCA events in conjunction with other _

applicable loads accepted by the staff. Detailed results of this assessment are documented in the Plant Design Assessment Report, Revision 3 and the FSAR, section 3.9.

For piping components and equipment outside containment beyond the first anchor, the applicant's report of Reference 2 concluded that the acceleration response spectra for the original seismic loads effectively equal or exceed the acceleration response spectra due to comparable combinations of new seismic and hydrodynamic loads. Thus, the loadings for the original design of the piping components and equipment were at all frequencies of interest equal to or greater than the comparable loadings due to combinations of new seismic and hydrodynamic loads.

This report was reviewed and accepted by the staff as described in Section 3.7.3 of the WNP-2 SSER 4 Based on the results of the assessment performed by the applicant in References 1 and 2, the staff concludes that the applicant has satisfactorily demonstrated that all the affected safety-related piping

' components, equipment and their supports in the WNP-2 facility have been adequately designed to withstand the suppression pool hydrodynamic loads associated with the BWR Mark II containment design and other loads in combination as specified in the FSAR, Section 3.9.3.1. Thus, the confirmatory item identified in Section 3.9.3.1 of the WNP-2 SER (Licensing Condition 23 of the WNP-2 Operating License No. NPF-21) is considered to be closed.
