DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Removal of Fire Pumps from Service During Maintenance Activities This report is provided in accordance with Section 3.14.B.2 of the Prairie Island Technical Specifications.

This section requires submittal of a report to the Commission outlining plans and procedures to be used to provide for the loss of redundancy in the fire suppression water system whenever fire pump (s) are inoperable for more than seven days.

On Tuesday, October 14,1986 the 22 Circulating water pump suction bay isolated and drained down to allow the 22 Circulating water pump to was be overhauled.

This rendered the 121 Screenwash pump inoperable.

On Tuesday, October 28, 1986 work was completed and the 121 Screenwash pump was returned to service.

To provide assurance of fire suppression water system redundancy during this period, both the motor driven and the diesel driven fire pumps were run daily to verify their operability as required by Technical Specification 4.16.B.2.

Also, the eight crossover valves from the safety grade cooling water system were available to provide backup water supply to the fire protection system.

This is true even during loss of off-site power.

Please contact us if you have any questions related to the measures taken during this maintenance operation to provide redundancy of fire suppression water supplies.
