Mr. James G. Partlow, Chief 5Ge 357 Material Control Licensing Branch U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 CTRL $ 785158
Subject:
SNM 696; Docket 70-734 LEMUF Limit
Reference:
General Atomic Letter 696-986 dated Sept. 28, 1978.
Dear Mr. Partlow:
General Atomic notified the Commission of its intent to produce in a campaign certain LEU fuels for research evaluation and testing.
The referenced correspondence contained commitments wherein GAC imposed upon itself a 1 kg LEMUF for Plant 5 campaign activities which is much less than the diminimus 9 kg authorized by the 10CFR70.51(c)(5).
Certain questions were raised by your staff regarding the LEMUF limit needed for Plant I during the applicable inventory period. We believe that a 1 kg limit of error for Plant I is appropriate to the SVA LEU operations which in-clude the campaigned materials referenced above.
We look forward to your early reply to our earlier requests for approval as well as the receipt of appropriate license condition modifications.
3 Very truly yours,
