ACTION: Petition for rulemaking: Extension of comment period.
SUMMARY
- On September 3, 1986 (51 FR 31341), the NRC published a notice of receipt of a petition for rulemaking filed by the Committee to Bridge the Gap. The petition requested that the Commission amend its regulations to require operators of reactors that use graphite as a moderator or reflector to (1) prepare and submit for NRC approval fire response plans and evacuation plans for a graphite fire and, (2) measure the energy stored in their graphite, and revise their safety analyses to consider the risks and consequences of a graphite fire in their facilities. The notice of receipt requested public comment on the petition and established a comment closing date of November 3, 1986.
In response to requests from the U.S. Department of Commerce, University of Missouri, Oregon State University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and North Carolina State University, the NRC has agreed to extend the comment period on PRM-50-44 for 90 days from the original comment closing date.
DATE:
The comment period for PRM-50-44 has been extended from November 3, 1986 to February 3, 1987.
